Iifa Tree

Items: Ruby, Phoenix Down, Hi-Potion, Lamia’s Flute, Remedy, Elixir, Brigandine.

When you enter the tree you’ll immediately encounter the barrier Eiko told you about. Zidane can poke or body slam all he wants but you’ll need to ask Eiko to break the seal for you. She’ll get a Ruby, which you can equip on Eiko to learn the summons Carbuncle.

Make your way towards the tree. There are lots of undead enemies here. The trick to killing them is to cast Life on them. The plants here are weak against Fire.

Eventually you’ll encounter Mocchi the moogle. You should have a letter for him. Save your game and head toward the circular area ahead. When Zidane examines the center try standing on it and you’ll be taken into the tree trunk.

Start down the path and go to the next screen. When the path branches off take the second path. Examine the switch and choose to push it. Now go retrieve the Phoenix Down from the chest above. The third path has a chest with a Hi-Potion. Then continue down.

On the next screen you’ll spiral down a ways. Then take the branching path left. The two chests here contain a Lamia’s Flute and a Remedy.

Now continue down. You’ll come to a platform that takes you further down into the tree. As you spiral down you’ll have several battles. When you reach the bottom have Zidane walk down past Dagger. Examine the bottom of the slope to find an Elixir. Walk around where Vivi and Eiko are and around the corner. Search here to find a chest with a Brigandine.

When you’re ready for a boss battle examine the edge to the left.

Soulcage
HP:9765 AP: 9
Vulnerability: N/A
Steal Items:Brigandine, Magician Cloak, Oak Staff Dropped Items: Elixir, Phoenix Pinion

To prep for this battle equip Body Temp on as many characters as possible. Also, equip the Bandit ability on Zidane. The Brigandine is by far the hardest item to steal from this boss and it’s worth it to have two of these in your inventory. If you can, have Auto-Regen or Auto-Potion on everyone. Also, this boss uses Fira attacks and Mustard Bombs on your party. If the mustard bomb attack is successful it will kill your character if they take any action while the Heat status remains. The last thing you want to do is cast Fire or Fira on Soulcage. If you do he will start to use an even higher power Fire attack that can devastate your party. Don’t cast Carbuncle because if one of Soulcages fire attacks reflects back at it the high power attacks will begin. Also, don’t use Phoenix because it will do fire damage to the boss as well. Have Vivi cast Bio and keep Dagger and Eiko to healing and protection. Have Zidane steal until he’s got all the items and then use his regular attack.
